Multi-disciplinary actor and artist Sarah Scanlon, a veteran of the NDSF 2017 production of The Tempest, hosts an exclusive workshop focused on intimacy direction. 

In this introductory workshop, you will learn how to work with Intimacy Directors throughout the entire production process. This workshop is your chance to learn how to integrate Intimacy Directors International’s Pillars and fortify consent culture within collaboration on theatre projects. Learn how to come together to make safe spaces for dangerous work.

Sarah Scanlon is a Certified Intimacy Director with IDC and a multi-disciplinary actor based in Chicago. In addition to her training with IDI and IDC, she has a long history of aerial dance, personal training, circus arts, and various forms of physical theatre that she draws on for her work. Sarah has Intimacy Directed for Steep, Marriott Theatre, Pride Films and Plays, and Kokandy Productions, among others. She has taught various Intimacy for the Stage workshops at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Raleigh Little Theater, as well as seminar sessions for Director’s Lab Chicago and The Chicago Inclusion Project. Sarah’s Intimacy Coordinator credits include several episodes for FX’s Fargo, season 4, an episode for The Chi, season 2, and for the web series, Damaged Goods. University credits include Northwestern, Northeastern Illinois University, and DePaul. Acting credits of note include work with the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival, About Face Theatre, Lifeline Theatre, Akvavit Theatre Company, and The Conspirators, among others.
