Who we are: Shakespeare at Notre Dame is a program that recognizes the centrality of the study of Shakespeare in humanistic pedagogy at the University of Notre Dame. Shakespeare at Notre Dame’s mission is to fuse the University’s pursuit of compassionate social justice with the study of the works of William Shakespeare. The program’s reach extends deep into the South Bend community and globally, with a number of community-focused events every year, and beyond, serving audiences across the country and from over a dozen countries across the world.

Job Description: The General Manager (GM) is tasked with delivering production and administrative responsibilities with a focus on annual budgetary parameters. The General Manager is responsible for daily operations on annual productions, bi-annual international tours and special events, including unique individual events created by the Shakespeare at Notre Dame team. The GM is responsible for compensating and reimbursing artists and scholars, credit card reconciliation, daily financial reconciliation, visa procurement for international artists, scheduling auditions, travel, hospitality and housing needs, as well as drafting and executing of employment agreements. The General Manager will have frequent consultations with the Producing Director and the Executive Artistic Director of Shakespeare at Notre Dame on the daily operations of the organization and production-specific needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the hiring processes of 70+ visiting artists, contractors, and temporary employees
  • Drafting of Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival (NDSF) and Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) employment agreements
  • Procuring visas for visiting international artists and scholars (J-1)
  • Procuring/Managing 12+ housing units for NDSF summer staff
  • Hospitality for all artists, productions, or events
  • Procurement and monitoring of all travel for Shakespeare at Notre Dame
  • Managing temporary staff payroll and other payables (compensation, billings, reimbursements, etc.)
  • Daily monitoring of organizational and production budgets
  • Administering monthly financial reconciliations
  • Depositing revenue to S@ND accounts
  • Scheduling auditions (in person and virtual)
  • Assisting in the management of all S@ND productions and events
  • Assisting with coordination with universities and artists/administrators for two AFTLS tours annually
  • Assisting with guiding AFTLS host universities toward repeat bookings
  • Supervising and training seasonal Office Assistant (Intern)

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 to 4 years of experience
  • Prior experience in theater production

  • Resourcefulness and independence
  • Innovative and self-directed, with willingness to take initiative over project tasks and explore potential solutions
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple demands simultaneously
  • Strong communicator both verbally and written
  • Financial/Budgetary management
